About the Job

Constantly innovating, focused on the highest quality coffee available, Fathom Coffee is Virginia Beach’s original nano roaster. Our philosophy is putting people-first, educating the community on coffee origins, brewing methods, and roasting techniques. Since starting as a hobby in 2016 we have now grown to have a full-service coffee destination located in the ViBe Creative District only 3 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.

We are looking to expand our team with someone looking to participate and take ownership in all aspects of the coffee shop. From providing world-class engagements with our loyal customers to educating first time visitors about our brand, packaging, labeling and shipping coffee, you will be an integral part of our growth.

What You’ll Do

• Work full time in the operation of the coffee shop. You will occasionally work solely as a manager, but you will also work as a crew member and barista during some shifts.
• Maintain and share with others your working knowledge of coffee origins, flavor profiles, and recipes.
• Ensure consistent messaging and branding, set by Fathom, through all marketing channels.
• Respond to all customer inquiries including phone calls, emails, and social media direct messages and post engagement.
• Work with marketing resources to create and develop content.
• Interview, hire, and train team members and maintain a high quality customer first experience
• Create and control the daily shift schedule – and will be responsible for coverage when changes to the published schedule occur.
• Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in the operations of the business. 
• Maintain inventory control and ensure adequate inventory of consumables and supplies are available.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and safe/secure shipping of online orders.
• Develop and grow the business and product offerings. Some examples of this expected in your first six months include:
  • Develop a “Roasting Experience” repeatable event offering with a script and marketing plan.
  • Develop a private-event / off-site coffee bar offering with pricing and a marketing plan.
  • Develop a standardized offering for wholesale clients and locations to offer nitro cold brew.
  • Expand and grow online sales channels.
• Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities to source new beans.
  
• You will engage with partners for opportunities to collaborate and increase the Fathom Coffee footprint.

• You have at least five years of coffee addiction.
• You regularly dedicate time to educating yourself, learning about trends in the industry, and taking any opportunity to develop your skills.

Our Work Environment

• Fathom Coffee operates out of a tiny space. We are located behind Commune in a small space accessible from both Baltic Avenue and from 17th Street. We currently do not have indoor seating. Customers typically grab their coffee to go – but we also have access to outdoor seating in the front and back of the shop.
• We plan to be open for customers from 0700 – 1500 daily. We will also work until 1600 when production requires additional hours.
• We have a relaxed atmosphere and a space that is constantly changing based on customer inputs and desires.

Position Details/Compensation Structure

• Your position will be compensated at $15/hr plus tips (when working as a barista). 
• Benefits: 401(k) match, health/dental/vision insurance
• You are eligible for a “profit-sharing” bonus based on your ability to increase month-over-month performance and achieve company goals.
• Targeted earnings will be $45,000-$50,000 with tips and bonuses.
